This is a year-round, limited-hour, non-benefited, on-call position, perfect for those looking to earn extra money. Hours will include day shifts, nights and weekends. Overall availability of work varies based on the college academic calendar which slows down during the summer and Catering does not operate during major holidays.
Banquet Servers are responsible for setting up and breaking down events, providing efficient and courteous service in accordance with the Banquet Event Order and Much Ado Server Guidelines/policies.
Set up and breakdown for events may include:
- Carrying trays
- Serving guests and clean up at the event's conclusion
- Putting out tablecloths and place settings
- Arranging table placement and setting up a buffet
Duties during an event vary, but typically a server will remain attentive while staying on their feet and moving about freely. They may be asked to pour wine or other beverages to seated guests. Banquet servers must adhere to health and safety standards at all times, even when closing down at the end of the event. Closing may include breaking down the table set up and taking tablecloths and linens to the laundry.
Servers also provide excellent customer service by communicating the special requirements and dietary needs of guests to management.
Servers may drive vehicles as needed following the rules and guidelines set by the College while making deliveries and returning to cleanup and breakdown.
Servers perform houseman duties as assigned (dishwashing, loading and transporting equipment, mopping and sweeping, etc.)
A valid driver’s license, the ability to communicate and follow instructions in English, both orally and in writing, the ability to lift 25 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods of time. Must have a demonstrated ability to set, serve and clear tables based on 8 covers. Experience multi-tasking in related jobs associated with catering and experience working in extremely busy settings while maintaining one's physical and mental composure, are essential, as well as working independently and being able to solve problems quickly.
Formal banquet service and bartending experience preferred, but willing to train
Experience in off-premise and on-site catering
Experience in the preparation phases for events including accurately packing and unpacking of necessary equipment based on reading an event order
Working conditions: Work can include bending, climbing stairs and carrying items weighing 25 pounds or more. Servers are exposed to hot/cold areas, both inside our facilities (kitchen) and at off-site events including outside weather conditions. Staff are required to wear black non-slip shoes.
