Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Annual Giving provides key leadership for the operations for The Fund for Davidson. Working with the Director of Annual Giving and other staff within the department and across the division, this role requires strategic and big picture thinking. Specific responsibilities include meeting The Fund for Davidson’s dollar and participation goals primarily through managing all The Fund for Davidson communications, leading and collaborating on existing and new fundraising projects, and supervising an Assistant Director of Annual Giving. This position manages the 20th, 30th and 35th Reunion class chairs and committees, and manages 150 donor prospects and volunteers through the stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. This position reports to the Director of Annual Giving. 

What will you be doing?

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Class Volunteer Management: Identify, recruit, train and manage Fund for Davidson volunteers from Generation X (Classes of 1986-2003), including Class Ambassadors, Reunion Gift Chairs, and Reunion Committees, for the purpose of creating class affinity, engagement, and reaching class participation and dollar goals. Plan, prepare for, hold and follow-up from volunteer calls and meetings. Devise and execute fundraising strategies for each class and regularly provide updated fundraising information statistics to volunteers throughout the year.  

  2. Leadership Management: Provide leadership in the Office of Annual Giving and help inform overall goals for The Fund for Davidson and serve as project manager for key fundraising programs including #AllinforDavidson. Directly supervise the Assistant Director of Annual Giving, and the programs that fall under those personnel including volunteer management, employee philanthropy and student and young alum engagement. Provide counsel and direction to other fundraising staff and volunteers.

  3. Communications:  Acting as the liaison to the Office of College Communications, work collaboratively with the Director of Advancement Communications to strategize, develop, and implement The Fund for Davidson’s communications and marketing plan. Ensure that all communication needs are met, including direct appeals, videos, and any other communication means.

  4. Student Engagement Ambassadors : In partnership with the Assistant Director of Annual Giving work with the Office of Alumni and Family Engagement liaison to, hire, train and manage student employees (Student Philanthropy Associates) who serve as Ambassadors for The Fund for Davidson. Projects may include solicitation and stewardship calls, campus education and programming, authoring written solicitations and thank you messages, and special projects as assigned. Manage summer calling program.

  5. Direct Solicitation: Manage a portfolio of donors. Conduct a minimum of 50 donor meetings annually. Provide appropriate and timely donor follow up and documentation. 

Additional Information:

Night and weekend work required when related to special events throughout the year. This position may require up to 25% travel. This position is currently eligible to work remotely 1-2 days per week (subject to change) upon approval of supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience or certification.

  • Minimum 1 year of development or related experience.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in higher education, fundraising, alumni and/or constituent relations, volunteer management, public relations, nonprofit administration and/or related fields.

  • High degree of personal initiative.

  • Flexibility and adaptability, especially in working collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Strong desire and ability to work effectively with persons from diverse generational, religious, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability and cultural backgrounds.

  • Ability and willingness to learn and grow with technological change.

* Training on the division's software systems will be provided.

Flexible Work Location

The College Relations division currently has a flexible work location program in line with the College’s telecommuting policy. This position is currently eligible for partial flexibility in work location, during non-event days, as determined with the position’s manager and reviewed regularly through our performance management processes. Candidates should expect to maintain a residence within commuting distance of the Charlotte metro area. An initial campus orientation period (of several weeks to months) worked from the office may be required. This policy is reviewed periodically.
