The Intergroup Studies Laboratory at Davidson College invites applications for a one-year, full-time, Lab Coordinator position in the Department of Psychology. The successful applicant will join an NSF-funded laboratory examining the impact of classroom diversity management practices on the experience of women and underrepresented students in science, technology, engineering, and math courses. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with laboratory experience. The person accepting this position will assist in all aspects of research being conducted in the Intergroup Studies Laboratory, and will supervise and train students working in the laboratory. The full-time Lab Coordinator will assist in all aspects of research being conducted in the Intergroup Studies Laboratory. The Lab Coordinator will supervise and train students who participate in the research program of the Intergroup Studies Laboratory. Most work will be done in a human research laboratory on the Davidson College campus.
The full-time Lab Coordinator will work closely with the PD/PI to create and test experimental materials, recruit participants, maintain records and data collected in experiments, ensure that all lab operations are running smoothly. The Lab Coordinator will supervise, schedule, train and recruit (with Dr. Good) student research assistants.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in psychology, with at least one year of laboratory experience. Laboratory experience may have been obtained in whole or in part during undergraduate training. Experience with computers required. Proficiency in software such as Microsoft Office, SPSS, or R. Knowledge of basic experimental design for studying behavior with specific knowledge of social psychology research techniques. Basic statistical analysis skills required. Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills also required. Experience in a professional setting that requires interacting with the general public and business contacts. Leadership skills including supervision of others and the coordination of multiple teams.
Coding and/or website design experience highly desired. Advanced statistical training desired. Willingness to assist the PD/PI in preparing conference presentations and manuscripts, and in coordinating the range of projects that occur concurrently in the lab.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS
This is a one year position. This individual will be the primary Lab Coordinator in the Intergroup Studies Laboratory. Dr. Jessica Good is the principal investigator of the lab and the coordinator will report directly to her. This coordinator will be expected to work well independently and as a part of a collaborative team. Some prior experience conducting social psychological experiments is required, but this experience may have been obtained in whole or in part during undergraduate training.
